Hogfish caught near Anna Maria Island

Hogfish

Also called: Hog Snapper

Hogfish are odd, beautiful reef dwellers with a long pig-like snout they use to root crustaceans off the bottom. They're as prized on the plate as any fish in the Gulf.

Because they feed by sight on the bottom, targeting them takes finesse — and the payoff is exceptional.

How we catch Hogfish

We fish small hooks and live shrimp tight to live-bottom reefs and ledges on nearshore and offshore trips.

On the table

Frequently called the best-eating fish in the Gulf — sweet, delicate, snow-white fillets.
